Composite Picture of Ezra Butler. 1913. During September 1763 Ezra Butler was born in Lancaster, Massachusetts. He managed a large farm in New Hampshire until he was 22, at which time he moved to Waterbury, Vermont, to start his own farm. At 27 he was converted. When a “wilderness” Baptist church was started in 1800, Butler was ordained to be its pastor. He lived the life of a civil servant, serving as a representative to the General Assembly of Vermont, chief justice for Washington County, a member of Congress, and governor of Vermont. He died on July 12, 1838.
