Description
  • McCarthy explains the manuscript discovery technique, comparing it to our English reading and studying skills used at school, as well as what it not in relation to critisicsm. McCarthy talks about the assumptions we bring to the text, both the message and cultural contexts. He provides the students with questions to ask the text - What does it say, What does it mean? How does it apply? What are the means that our author communicates to us? McCarthy adds elements of the Swedish method, asking his students what stands out and what questions they have. The group then demonstrates the Swedish method. Cassette label reads: "Introduction to Manuscript Discovery. Tony McCarthy 1397 c1982"
