  • Handwritten note on the back of this photograph reads: "Shady Grove Church, near Phil Campbell. Sunday crowd. About half showing. Feb. 16, 1913." The following is an excerpt from James H. Chapman's travel diary, dated February 16, 1913: "Pastor J. A. Love. S. S. Supt.[Sunday School Superintendent] C.L. Brown. Membership: 150. Many Hardshell in belief. Others have gone ahead.
