  • Lithograph of William R. Williams. 1881. William R. Williams was born in New York on October 14, 1804. He graduated from Columbia College in 1823. Williams then became an active member of the Oliver Street Church, into which he was baptized. In 1832 he was ordained as pastor of the Amity Street Church. Many of his sermons and writings have been published. At various times, Williams was invited to chairs at colleges and university, but he felt strongly that his calling was the church.
