Henry Voes [Voz] and John Esch, two Augustinian friars, stand side-by-side, each with an arm draped around the other and chained to the stake. Both men have long beards and appear to be wearing loose robes. Each man has his outermost arm outstretched toward the sky and they are surrounded by a group of soldiers; the soldier to the left of the men stokes the fire. In earlier editions, the martyrdom of these two men is illustrated by Luborsky and Ingram 11223/37 and only appears in the third early English edition (1576).
