We must have an appreciation for all of God's good creation, and that we are part of this creation. It is up to us to be thankful and grateful for what God has done for us. Jesus' call to hate oneself speaks to an egotistic love of self. There is a right way and wrong to hate and love oneself. Matthew 20:20-28 follows the request of the mother of James and John.
