  • Nurses free time activities at the Lazaretto, Edith seated at left, 1914. Edith volunteers with other women students as a nurse with German Red Cross at military hospital in Mahrisch-Weisskirchen. She cares for soldiers suffering from infectious diseases: typhus, dysentery and cholera. She lost many friends and acquaintances during the war.
