This collection contains the earliest minutes of the Rock River Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. These minutes detail the yearly gatherings of Methodist elders and deacons who met to discuss various details about the conference and its ministries. The names of the clergy and churches/circuits can be found within these pages. The minutes were originally handwritten, but many were transcribed in the 1980s by the Northern Illinois Commission on Archives and History. These scans are based upon those transcriptions. The Rock River Conference began in Mount Morris in 1840 and continued until 1968 when the United Methodist Church was formed. Originally, the conference included parts of Wisconsin and Iowa, but they later became their own conferences. Today, the former Rock River Conference mostly exists within the bounds of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church.
