Actions

The collection consists of the full-page illuminations from two Armenian manuscripts of the four Gospels. One vellum manuscript, created between A.D. 1307-1331, contains 300 folios and measures 25.5 x 18.5 cm. This manuscript was created at the monastery of Noravank` by the scribe Momik, who was assisted by the vardapet Pawlos. These two scribes completed most of the writing by 1307. Another scribe, Yohanes, completed it when Momik developed a problem with his eyes. The miniatures and illuminations are
painted in brilliant colors against a gold background, by Torso Taronac`i. Taronac`i is well known through his work in a number of manuscripts that have survived. A second vellum manuscript, created ca. A.D. 1656, contains 291 folios and measures 20 x 14.5 cm. This manuscript was written by the scribe, Nicholas.
