Creator: Schaller, Rev. Winfred B., 1922-1983 Date: 1972 Contributing Institution: Graduate Theological Union Description: Rev. Winfred B. Schaller left the CLC in 1972. In a letter on "Why We Left the CLC," Schaller writes that he was censored more and more and then forced to resign from editing the periodical, The Lutheran Confession. He was an international scholar and mentor in religion and the arts, dance and humor. He authored hundreds of articles and a dozen books, inspired a generation of students, and lectured and conducted workshops throughout the US. Here he is shown at graduation circa 2000. Date: 1930 Contributing Institution: Graduate Theological Union Description: Robert Whitaker was a Baptist minister in Los Gatos, California. He was politically active in many issues including socialism, communism, pacifism, the labor movement, and the American Civil Liberties Union. He was a prolific author of articles and poetry, contributing to liberal religious and labor journals. He was once arrested under the Criminal Syndicalism Act for participating in a pacifist assembly, and later worked to free labor activist Tom Mooney from prison. Whitaker's friends and collegues included Upton Sinclair, Jack London, Fanny Bixby Spencer, John Haynes Holmes, and Anna Louise Strong. View Full Item at Graduate Theological Union
