Taylor was born in 1851. He graduated from Baylor University and was ordained to the ministry in 1879. Z. C. Taylor and his wife Kate served as Southern Baptist missionaries to Brazil. Together, with fellow missionaries William B. and Anne Luther Bagby, they formed a church in Bahia in 1882, the first Baptist church in Brazil composed of Brazilians. Born in Plymouth, Vermont, on March 21, 1853. He graduated from Phillips Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, and received his LLD from Norwich University in 1902. After practicing law for a number of years, he became the state's attorney and later the speaker of the Vermont House of Representatives. From 1900-1902 he was the governor of Vermont. On February 22, 1785, William Vaughan was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. At the age of 3, his parents moved to Kentucky. In 1810 he was converted; the following year he was licensed to preach. In 1812 he was ordained and settled in Mason County, where he preached in several churches and taught school for fifteen years. He moved to Ohio in 1827, where he only stayed one year before returning to Kentucky. Vaughan was appointed as the general agent for the American Sunday-school Union in 1831, and then as the general agent for the American Bible Society in 1835. In 1836 he became pastor of the Bloomfield church, where he remained until 1868. Vaughan died on March 31, 1877. JPG file (347 KB) -

On January 4, 1770, William Staughton was born at Coventry, England. By the age of 12 he had already published a book of children’s poetry. He was baptized at the age of 17. In 1792 he graduated from Bristol College. The following year he came to America to pastor the church in Georgetown, South Carolina. After eighteen months, he moved to New Jersey. During a few short pastorates, he received the degree of D.D. from Princeton College. He was called to the First church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1805. In 1811 he became pastor of the Sansom Street Church. He remained there until he was invited to become president of Columbian College in 1823. After six years, he resigned from Columbian College to become president of Georgetown College, Kentucky. On the way to Kentucky Staughton became ill and died on December 12, 1829. JPG file (328 KB)
