Creator: Hunter, Stanley Armstrong, 1888-1959 Date: 1940 Contributing Institution: Graduate Theological Union Description: This book by Stanley Armstrong Hunter (1888-1959) gives eloquent testimony to the activities around the Temple of Religion in 1939. Hunter was born near Toronto, Canada. He followed in his father's footsteps and became a Presbyterian minister. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton (1910), an MA from Columbia University, a divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary (1916), and an honorary doctorate in divinity from Occidental College (1925). He served as assistant pastor in the Central Presbyterian Church in New York City and in the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. He was pastor of North Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh and an associate editor of the Presbyterian Banner. He moved west and served as pastor of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, CA from 1924-1954. He was interim pastor until 1955 at Centennial Presbyterian in Oakland, CA. He retired in 1957.
