Creator: Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia Date: 1745/1755 Contributing Institution: Haverford College Quaker and Special Collections Description: The monthly business meeting is the basic unit of Quaker organization. In the 17th and 18th centuries, only members in good standing could participate. Men and women met separately to conduct business but worshipped together. The business meeting usually included Friends who might worship in several different meeting houses in a defined geographic area.
