Description
  • The greater part of the bas-reliefs of which representations are given in the following plates, were discovered in the ruins of the Palace of Sennacherib in the mound of Kouyunjik. Some are of the highest interest, as illustrative of events mentioned in Holy Writ. Others appear to record the conquest of countries to the south of Nineveh, and of tribes inhabiting the mountainous districts of Armenia and Asia Minor.
