Gilbert Tennent (1703-1764) was an Irish-American Presbyterian clergyman, and one of the leaders of the Great Awakening. Two of Tennent's sermons are included in this manuscript. The first sermon, dated 1744 or 1745, is about the sacrament, and begins with a reference to 1 Corinthians 11:24, "And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me."
