  • Photograph of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1937. Handwritten on the back of the photograph: "This is the largest 'Downtown' church in the city. Convenient to all hotels and many large apartment buildings. A popular place for the [illegible] away from home, where they have the [illegible] welcome of the church. It is noted for its Sunday school attendance as its classes will average from 1800 to 2000 attendees. The seating capacity is four thousand. Many of the noted ministers of the country occupy this pulpit each year." The church is a part of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church.
