  • Lithograph of Robert B. Semple. 1881. Robert B. Semple was born at Rose Mount, Virginia, on January 20, 1769. While he was an infant, his father died. Following his conversion he was baptized in 1789. The next year he was ordained the first pastor of the Bruington church, where he remained until his death. In 1793 he married Ann Loury. Semple was an advocate for missions and education. He was invited to be president of Transylvania University in 1805, but declined the offer. Semple published a Catechism for the use of children in 1809 and his History of Virginia Baptists in1810. He died on December 25, 1831. JPG file (332 KB)
