Description
  • Quakers married each other in the presence of witnesses. A marriage certificate was drawn up and signed by those in attendance. This document also included the names of the bride and groom, where the wedding took place, and what monthly meeting oversaw the proceedings. Some certificates list the parents as well. This, the meeting's record of the event, was a copy of the original which was retained by the couple after being recorded. Index at front.
