  • Lithograph of Samuel Jones. 1881. On January 14, 1735, Samuel Jones was born in Glamorganshire, Wales. At the age of 2, his parents moved to America. He graduated from the College of Philadelphia in 1762. The next year he was ordained and became pastor of the Lower Dublin Baptist Church, where he remained until his death. Jones was very active in the Philadelphia Association, at various times serving as a writer, committeeman, and moderator. The Association also contracted him for several special projects: he was invited to assist in the founding of Rhode Island College and he was asked to develop a revised treatise of discipline for the Philadelphia Confession of Faith.
